In scenario C, its worst-case scenario, unemployment rises to 5.6%.Political and Economic ContextThe decision to keep rates on hold for now, however, will come as a relief to the Labour government before the important local elections next week.Rachel Reeves, the chancellor, had also announced a package of anti-inflation measures in her late November budget that she hoped would pave the way for more rate cuts.
