Jorginho Clarifies Chappell Roan Security Incident as 'Misunderstanding'

Jorginho, the Flamengo footballer, has clarified his comments on last month's incident between his 11-year-old stepdaughter and a security guard in Brazil, calling his previous claims against Chappell Roan “a misunderstanding”.“I made my initial statement in the heat of the moment, after hearing that my child and wife had been approached by an adult male security guard in an intimidating way,” Jorginho wrote on Instagram. “I reacted as any father would. My priority is, and always will be, protecting my family, and that is exactly what I did.”Chappell Roan was in Brazil to perform at Lollapalooza festival, two years after reportedly drawing one of the biggest crowds in the festival’s history.“At the time, we acted on the information that was available to us,” Jorginho said. “Since then, I have become aware of new information that has changed my understanding of parts of what happened. Chappell Roan made a public statement, reached out privately to [my wife] Catherine, and our teams also spoke directly. It became clear that she had no knowledge of what took place at breakfast and had not asked anyone to approach them. She was understanding and sympathetic to what had happened to our child.”Previously, the ex-Chelsea player had said that his stepdaughter was “extremely shaken and cried a lot” after Roan’s security spoke “in an extremely aggressive manner” to her and his wife when they saw the singer at a São Paulo hotel. Roan denied that the security guard was part of her team, saying: “No one came up to me, no one bothered me, I was just sitting at breakfast at my hotel.”Following Roan’s response, security guard Pascal Duvier spoke up about the events, saying: “I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st. I was at the hotel on behalf of another individual, and I was not part of the personal security team of Chappell Roan.”Noting Duvier’s comments, Jorginho said: “While we still do not know what prompted him to approach them, and do not believe an 11-year-old at breakfast could reasonably be seen as any kind of security threat, it is now clear that he was not acting on behalf of Chappell.“It was, ultimately, a misunderstanding in that respect, and I am glad to set the record straight. It’s important to me that this is clarified fairly and accurately. I regret the impact this situation has had on Chappell Roan, Catherine Ada, and our family.”Jorginho ended his statement by drawing a line under the incident. “As far as I am concerned, this matter is closed.”

Rockstar Games Hit by ShinyHunters Cyberattack, Grand Theft Auto VI Data at Risk

Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto, has been targeted by a cyberattack from the Shin…
Rockstar Games, the renowned studio behind the Grand Theft Auto series, has fallen victim to a cyberattack by the hacker group ShinyHunters. The group is demanding a ransom in exchange for not releasing stolen company data, including potentially sensitive information about the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI.The attack, which was first reported on April 13, 2026, involves ShinyHunters threatening to leak data stolen from Rockstar Games' servers operated by a third-party vendor. The group initially set a deadline of April 14, 2026, for the company to enter negotiations. In a chilling message, ShinyHunters warned Rockstar: “Rockstar Games. Your … data was compromised … Pay or leak.” The group has a history of targeting major companies, including Microsoft, Cisco, and Ticketmaster.Rockstar Games has downplayed the impact of the hack, stating that only a “limited amount of non-material company information” was accessed and that there was no impact on players. However, given the high stakes surrounding Grand Theft Auto VI, which has been in development for nearly a decade and is expected to be one of the biggest releases in gaming history, any breach is a serious concern. The ShinyHunters group is linked to The Com, a loose network of cybercriminals, primarily English-speaking individuals aged 16 to 25. This group has been involved in previous high-profile hacks, including the Pornhub breach last year. This incident follows a previous major breach in 2022 when a teenager from the Lapsus$ hacking collective leaked 90 minutes of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay footage. The hacker, Arion Kurtaj, was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order in 2023. Rockstar reportedly spent $5 million and thousands of hours recovering from that incident. The development costs for Grand Theft Auto VI are estimated to be close to $2 billion, and the game’s tight secrecy makes any data breach particularly damaging. Originally slated for Autumn 2025, the game has been delayed to November 19, 2026.

TikTok Commenter’s Early Thyroid Cancer Alert Saves Baker’s Life, Highlighting Surge in Social‑Media Health Diagnoses

A TikTok user known as “PickleFart” identified a thyroid abnormality in baker Malina Lee, leading t…
Malina Lee, a 31‑year‑old wedding baker from San Antonio, joined TikTok in 2020 to pass the lockdown‑induced boredom and promote her business. Four years later, an anonymous commenter called “PickleFart” noticed an asymmetrical neck in one of her videos and suggested she check for a goiter. The tip proved accurate: doctors confirmed thyroid cancer. Lee received prompt treatment and, within a year, was declared cancer‑free. She told the outlet that her oncologist was amazed at how early the disease was caught, crediting the TikTok comment as the catalyst.Lee’s experience is part of a growing trend where TikTok’s hyper‑targeted algorithm surfaces health‑related content that resonates with users’ unnoticed symptoms. In several cases, community members have flagged potential conditions that clinicians initially missed. The “PickleFart” persona belongs to Billie Jean Tuomi, who calls herself the “thyroid avenger.” A thyroid‑cancer survivor herself (diagnosed in 2012), Tuomi now scans videos for neck asymmetry and gently advises creators to seek a thyroid panel—a blood test measuring hormone levels and antibodies. The American Thyroid Association recommends adults start routine thyroid testing at age 35, or annually for high‑risk individuals.Tuomi estimates she has flagged dozens of videos, with at least four confirmed serious thyroid issues, including Lee’s. She stresses she does not claim to diagnose, merely urges viewers to consult a physician. After a viral comment, she received a flood of private messages with neck photos, prompting her to change her username.Lee, inspired by Tuomi’s intervention, has begun commenting on other users’ videos, helping one individual discover an enlarged thyroid that required removal. She describes the process as a “domino effect” of community‑driven health awareness.Medical professionals acknowledge the double‑edged nature of this phenomenon. Craig Mittleman, director of emergency services at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, notes a rise in patients arriving with self‑diagnoses sourced from social media. While this can empower patients to ask informed questions, it also burdens clinicians with debunking misinformation.Gender disparities amplify the issue: research shows women are more likely to seek health information online, often after feeling dismissed by traditional providers. TikTok user Tori Mosser, a 23‑year‑old filmmaker, credits a direct message suggesting chronic appendicitis for prompting surgery that resolved her chronic vomiting episodes. Both Lee and Mosser emphasize the therapeutic value of finding a supportive community on TikTok, especially for invisible or chronic illnesses that are frequently minimized in clinical settings.

Apple Users Warned of 'Nasty' iCloud Storage Scam

A new scam targeting Apple users is impersonating iCloud storage warnings, threatening to delete ph…
Apple users are being warned about a nasty scam doing the rounds, impersonating the company's iCloud service. The scam emails claim that the recipient's iCloud storage is full and threaten to delete their photos and videos if they do not upgrade their storage immediately. The emails include a button to upgrade iCloud storage, but this is a malicious link designed to harvest people's bank and personal details. If clicked, it leads to a phishing website that looks genuine but aims to steal sensitive information.Criminals behind the scam may attempt to steal money or sell the details to other criminals on the 'dark web' if victims provide their bank details or make a payment. The scam emails can coincide with genuine messages from Apple saying users have run out of storage and urging them to upgrade, making it appear convincing. To avoid falling victim, users are advised to ignore and bin these emails, and not click on any links. Scam emails can be reported by forwarding them to [email protected], and emails impersonating iCloud can be sent to [email protected] and/or [email protected].

Brazil and United States Launch DESARMA Programme to Intercept Arms and Drug Smuggling

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula announced a new security pact with the United States, creating…
Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva used his Friday social‑media post to herald a new security partnership with the United States as a breakthrough in the fight against transnational crime. The agreement links the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, establishing the DESARMA programme. Under DESARMA the two agencies will exchange real‑time data, apply rigorous cargo‑tracking protocols and launch joint operations to intercept illicit shipments of arms and narcotics.Finance Minister Dario Durigan called the collaboration an “important step in strengthening international cooperation”, noting that it will integrate intelligence and joint actions to curb the flow of weapons and drugs between the two nations. The pact is part of President Donald Trump’s broader “Shield of the Americas” initiative, which seeks to enlist right‑wing governments across the Western Hemisphere in a hard‑line campaign against criminal networks.Despite the cooperation, Lula’s administration has pushed back against Washington’s attempts to label Brazilian gangs such as the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV) as foreign terrorist organisations. Lula and Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira have repeatedly asserted Brazil’s sovereignty and warned against external “tutelage”.In the last twelve months Brazil reported seizing 1,168 illegally imported weapons and parts, most of which originated from the U.S. state of Florida, underscoring the scale of the smuggling problem.A statement from the Revenue Service emphasized that the deal will ensure a “continuous flow of information from U.S. authorities to their Brazilian counterparts”, enhancing operational coordination.Relations remain strained: Vieira told U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that Brazil opposes the terrorist‑label designation, while the Trump administration continues aggressive actions in the region, including lethal strikes on maritime vessels and a controversial raid in Venezuela.Looking ahead, Lula is expected to travel to Washington, D.C., later this year for talks with Trump, providing a diplomatic channel to manage both cooperation and disagreement.

Physicist Brian Cox Flags AI Uncertainty and Quantum Promise Ahead of ‘Emergence’ Tour

In a candid interview, physicist Brian Cox discusses the inspiration behind his new live show ‘Emer…
Brian Cox’s latest live show, ‘Emergence’, draws its spark from Johannes Kepler’s 1609 treatise ‘The Six‑Cornered Snowflake’. Cox explains that Kepler’s wonder at the symmetry of snowflakes, written during a Prague snowstorm, embodies the modern scientific quest to understand the origins of patterns we observe. He says the show explores three realms: what we know, what we don’t know, and what may remain unknowable. This framework sets the stage for his reflections on the biggest unanswered questions in science. If he could answer any scientific mystery, Cox would choose the existence of life beyond Earth. He points to current missions—two spacecraft heading to Jupiter’s moons and the James Webb Space Telescope probing exoplanet atmospheres—as promising avenues that might soon reveal a biosignature. When asked about the future of technology, Cox warns that the trajectory of artificial intelligence is still opaque, making it both thrilling and potentially hazardous. He adds that quantum computing is another frontier with wildly divergent timelines—some experts see breakthroughs within five years, others doubt they’ll arrive in a lifetime—highlighting the revolutionary yet unpredictable nature of these tools.Cox also reflects on his shifting stance toward social media. He admits moving from early optimism about its democratizing power to a more critical view of its noise and misinformation, while acknowledging its complex impact on politics and public discourse. On personal advice, Cox stresses the importance of following one’s passion: “Do what you most enjoy,” he says, recalling his own journey from a teenage musician to a celebrated astronomer, supported by parents who encouraged his interests. He shares a memorable fan encounter: at an ELO concert, a man introduced himself as Paul McCartney after asking a question about Saturn’s moon Enceladus—an encounter that left Cox “overwhelmed” as a lifelong Beatles fan. When asked about a pop‑culture stance, Cox admits he is largely out of touch, but notes that musical innovation seems to have plateaued since the 1980s, contrasting the rapid evolution of earlier decades. One of his favorite astronomical facts is the staggering number of observable galaxies: about two trillion. He highlights how, within a century, humanity moved from debating whether other galaxies existed to quantifying an immense cosmos, also measuring its age at roughly 13.8 billion years.Brian Cox will tour ‘Emergence’ across Australia from 5 to 30 May 2026.

Moldova's Environmental Crisis: Russia's War on Ukraine Takes a Toll on Water Supply

A recent oil spill in Moldova's Nistru river, caused by Russia's attack on Ukraine's Novodnistrovsk…
Moldova is facing a severe environmental crisis after an oil spill in the Nistru river, which provides 80% of the country's drinking water. The spill was caused by Russia's attack on Ukraine's Novodnistrovsk hydropower complex on March 13. The attack has led to a significant contamination of the river, with oil slicks detected over 200 km downstream. The Moldovan government has declared an environmental alert and set up a crisis centre to monitor the spill and remove the pollutant. The government has also received support from European allies, including Romania and Poland, which have sent help to prevent the petrol from streaming downwards towards Chișinău.The oil spill has had a significant impact on local residents, with many struggling to access clean drinking water. Inflation in Moldova rose to 35% in 2022 and is currently around 5%, and the country has had to declare a state of energy emergency after Russia attacked the Isaccea–Vulcănești power line in Ukraine. The crisis has also highlighted the vulnerability of Moldova's water supply to attacks from Russia and the chaos caused by its war on Ukraine. Moldova's president, Maia Sandu, has laid the blame squarely on Moscow, saying Russia bears 'full responsibility' for the oil spill. The environmental disaster has sparked an information war between Moldova's pro-European and pro-Russian factions, with conflicting interpretations of the crisis. While Moldova's pro-European government holds Moscow responsible for the spill, pro-Russian propagandists claim the crisis was an accident caused by a Ukrainian truck. The Nistru oil spill has shown Moldova how exposed it is, and how fragile a society can become without access to clean drinking water. The war next door, combined with the climate crisis, give us little reason to think there won't be another ecological disaster like this.
