Philine Zu Ermgassen of the University of Edinburgh stressed that hatchery innovations are essential to produce sufficient local‑genetic stock for successful restoration.By re‑introducing native oysters, the scheme aims to create complex reefs that host scallops, molluscs, algae, seaweeds and numerous invertebrates, thereby revitalising marine biodiversity while contributing to climate mitigation.
