"The dogs humanize an environment that's devoid of all humanity," said Gilbertson. "It gives men who have committed grave crimes against society a chance to do something, it gives men a chance to show weakness and vulnerability to be emotionally open and playful, it gives them a sense of responsibility." Cultural Preservation Through Visual Documentation The Women's Grass by Blackfeet Nation photographer Whitney Snow documents that intricate web of cultural knowledge and practice that has grown around sweetgrass.
