London Marathon Eyes Historic Two-Day Event in 2027 with 100,000 Runners

The London Marathon is in advanced talks to host a two-day event in 2027, dubbed the Double London Marathon, which could see a record 100,000 amateur runners participate over the weekend of April 24-25. The proposed event, if approved, would allow 50,000 runners to take part each day. The elite men's and women's races would be staged on separate days, showcasing both top-level and grassroots sport. Last year, a record 56,540 finishers raised £87.3m for charity, making London the world's largest annual one-day fundraising event. The goal for 2027 is to raise more than £130m for charity and deliver a significant boost to London's wellbeing and economy. The plan has garnered support from the mayor's office and could provide a unique opportunity to promote unity and community across the country. Over 1.1m people entered the public ballot to run in 2026, with many left disappointed due to the event's soaring popularity. The London Marathon's chief executive, Hugh Brasher, stated: “The TCS London Marathon is the world's most popular marathon, and we are always exploring innovative ways to enable more people to take part and to deliver positive benefits for London.”

Amazon's AWS Bahrain Region Disrupted by Drone Activity Amid Middle East Conflict

Amazon's AWS region in Bahrain was disrupted due to drone activity amid the ongoing conflict in the…
Amazon's cloud computing unit, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has confirmed that its region in Bahrain was disrupted due to drone activity. This incident marks the second time in a month that the company's operations have been affected by the war in the Middle East.An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the disruption, stating that the company is helping customers migrate to alternate AWS regions while it recovers from the incident. However, the company did not provide additional details on the extent of the damage or the expected duration of the disruption. The disruption comes after Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) threatened to attack 'economic centres and banks' related to US and Israeli entities in the region. The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim news agency released a list of offices and infrastructure run by top US companies with Israeli links, including Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, which have branches in multiple Israeli cities and Gulf countries.AWS is critical for the operation of many well-known websites and government operations and is Amazon's main driver of profits. Earlier this month, AWS reported that facilities in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates had lost power, and the company was working to transfer computing workloads to other regions. These attacks come after Iran claimed it is targeting US assets across the Gulf Arab states in retaliation for the joint attack on Iran by the US and Israel that began on February 28. Gulf states have accused Tehran of targeting civilian infrastructure, such as airports and energy facilities.

His goal is to build momentum towards the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will take place from June 11 to July 19.Mbappe, 27, had missed four league games this year due to the lingering knee issue. However, he made a comeback by featuring off the bench in Real Madrid's 3-2 win over Atletico on Sunday. The forward has been named in the French national squad for friendlies against Brazil on March 26 and Colombia three days later in the United States, which is co-hosting the World Cup with Canada and Mexico.“I have made a 100 percent recovery,” Mbappe told online sports newspaper AS. “I prepared for the last two World Cups in the best way possible, which is to play, score goals, win titles, and fight until the last minute for my club, and this year I am going to do the same to arrive in top form.”Mbappe had a standout performance in the 2022 World Cup, scoring a hat-trick in France's final loss to Argentina and winning the tournament's golden boot award with eight goals. He also expressed frustration with speculative reports about his recovery, stating that “some false things have been said” about his return for the 1998 and 2018 world champions.France will compete in Group I at the World Cup alongside Norway, Senegal, and the winner of an intercontinental playoff.

Rare Twin Births Mark Conservation Victory for Endangered Mountain Gorillas in DRC

Conservationists in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are celebrating a second set of rare mount…
A second set of mountain gorilla twins has been born in Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), marking what conservationists are calling an extraordinary event for these endangered primates.Just two months after twin mountain gorillas were discovered by rangers in the Virunga massif in eastern DRC, another rare twin birth has been found by park wardens. This time, an infant male and female have been spotted in the Baraka family, a troop of 19 mountain gorillas that roam the region's high-altitude rainforests.Park rangers have placed the young primates under additional monitoring to help them through the critical initial months, as the infants face significant challenges to becoming fully grown adults. Twins are extremely rare in mountain gorillas, accounting for less than 1% of births, and place extra demands on the mother. The gorilla subspecies, found in only two isolated pockets of the Virunga massif and the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwest Uganda, has high rates of infant mortality, with about a quarter falling victim to disease, trauma or infanticide. In January, Virunga National Park announced that a female mountain gorilla called Mafuko had given birth to twins. The infant males are now 11 weeks old and said to be thriving, with other gorillas in the troop taking extra care of the mother to support her caregiving, according to rangers. Park authorities believe that twin births are more likely when females are in particularly good physical condition.Jacques Katutu, the head of gorilla monitoring at Virunga, said: "Two instances of twin births within three months is an extraordinary event and provides another vital indicator that dedicated conservation efforts, which have continued despite the current instability in eastern Congo, continue to support the growth of the endangered mountain gorilla population within Virunga National Park."Specialist veterinary care has played a leading role in the revival of the subspecies. In Rwanda, Uganda and the DRC, organizations such as the Gorilla Doctors have prevented dozens of deaths by helping animals affected by human behavior, such as by releasing gorillas accidentally caught in poachers' traps. One study attributes half of the mountain gorillas' population increase to the vets.Barely 250 mountain gorillas were left in the 1970s, and many thought the animals faced extinction. Decades of intense conservation work helped population numbers surpass 1,000 in 2018, and conservation authorities have since downgraded the subspecies' status from critically endangered to endangered. The DRC section of the Virunga mountain range remains one of the most dangerous places in the world for wildlife rangers. Over the past 20 years, more than 220 rangers have been killed in the park, where rebel groups such as M23 and other militias, as well as bandits, operate with impunity.

The Biscoff Effect: How a Belgian Biscuit Became a Global Social Media Phenomenon

This article explores the remarkable journey of Biscoff, a Belgian biscuit brand that transformed f…
Around 15 years ago, Ashley Markle was introduced to a culinary curiosity that would later become a global phenomenon. While staying at her aunt's house, she encountered a small, plastic-wrapped biscuit that would forever change her perception of cookies. What began as an unknown airline snack evolved into one of the fastest-growing biscuit brands in the US, with Markle becoming an unwitting early adopter of what would become a cultural movement. The spiced caramel biscuit, created in 1932 by Belgian company Lotus, has experienced remarkable peaks in popularity over the past decade. From being described as 'crack in a jar' in 2014 to becoming a staple in freakshakes in 2016, the brand has consistently found new ways to capture consumer interest. The pandemic home-baking boom in 2021 propelled Biscoff into social media stardom, with chef Jon Watts demonstrating multiple Biscoff recipes on daytime television. In January 2026, Biscoff experienced another viral surge, particularly on TikTok and Instagram, where users obsessively shared recipes for a 'Japanese cheesecake' featuring the biscuits. Markle, a social media creator specializing in snack recipes, has seen her Biscoff-related content accumulate millions of views, including a cheesecake recipe that garnered over 4 million views and a two-ingredient cookie recipe with 5.6 million views. The phenomenon extends beyond social media. A teacher named Raj developed such an affinity for Biscoff that he purchased multiple boxes, declaring: 'I'd smoke Biscoff if I could.' At his school, colleagues use the biscuits as incentives for students to attend tutoring sessions, demonstrating the brand's cultural penetration.Food industry experts attribute Biscoff's success to several converging trends. Lisa Harris, co-founder of food consultancy Harris and Hayes, explains: 'Biscoff isn't a single trend in itself, more an expression of various converging trends.' The brand taps into nostalgia, accessible indulgence, and versatility, allowing it to appear in everything from drinks to ice cream to desserts. The brand's partnerships with other companies exemplify modern 'collab culture', with Harris noting that products with distinctive flavors often develop a life of their own among consumers. 'Fans run with it and feel as if they have ownership over the product as much as the brand itself does,' she observes.Lotus Bakeries has responded strategically to the social media buzz. The company is removing the Lotus embossing from biscuits, replacing it with the word Biscoff to better resonate with younger shoppers. Niamh Leonard-Bedwell, fast-moving consumer goods editor at The Grocer, notes: 'In the week to January 17, their volume sales were up 30% on the same time last year.'The business impact has been substantial. In its 2025 annual results, Lotus announced a 10% revenue increase, with more than half coming from the Biscoff brand. The company has expanded internationally with factories in the US and Thailand, with founder's grandson Jan Boone declaring: 'We want to conquer the world.'Despite its sweet reputation, Biscoff is venturing into savory territory with recipes like prawns in Biscoff sauce and creamy Biscoff duck breast. However, chef Jon Watts remains skeptical about these applications, preferring the biscuit's traditional uses in desserts and treats.Industry analysts believe Biscoff's universal appeal will sustain its popularity. Unlike divisive trends like matcha, Biscoff offers a 'quite universally likable flavor' that balances novelty with familiarity. As Kiti Soininen of Mintel notes: 'If it's that sort of safe adventure, where it's got that newness, that freshness, but it's pairing that with familiarity – that hits the mark with a lot of people.'Despite growing concerns about ultra-processed foods, Biscoff's traditional positioning may insulate it from criticism. There's a disconnect between how products are classified and consumer intuition, with Soininen observing: 'If my grandmother can have bought this then it can't be truly ultra-processed.'With retailers developing Biscoff-inspired products including porridge, tea, popcorn, and breakfast cereal, the trend shows no signs of abating. As Markle predicts: 'I don't see anybody deciding that they don't like Biscoff any more.'

WNBA Owners Approve Landmark CBA, Paving Way for $1.4 Million Top Player Salaries

The WNBA board of governors has unanimously ratified a new seven-year collective bargaining agreeme…
The WNBA has taken a major step forward with the unanimous ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement (CBA) by its board of governors. This landmark deal, which has also been approved by the players, will run through 2032 and marks a significant improvement in player compensation. Under the terms of the new agreement, the minimum salary for players will be $270,000, a substantial increase from the maximum salary of about $250,000 last season. Top players will see their earnings rise dramatically, with the supermax salary set at $1.4 million. Additionally, the salary cap for each team will be $7 million, up from $1.5 million in 2025. WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert hailed the agreement as the beginning of a 'bold new era' for the league, made possible by the collaboration of players, team owners, and the broader WNBA community. The league is set to capitalize on its growing momentum as it approaches its 30th season, which will tip off in May. With the CBA in place, teams are now gearing up for the regular season starting on May 8. This includes an expansion draft for new teams Toronto and Portland, followed by free agency and the college draft on April 13. Teams will begin training camp on April 19, leaving them little time to prepare for the season.

Mohamed Salah's Legacy at Liverpool: A Legendary Career Comes to an End

Mohamed Salah's departure from Liverpool FC marks the end of an era. The Egyptian forward has been …
Mohamed Salah's final game before announcing his departure from Liverpool FC was a fitting tribute to his legacy. In a match against Galatasaray, Salah scored a goal, showcasing the skills that have made him a legend at Anfield. Throughout his time at Liverpool, Salah has been part of two great trios: the forward line with Sadio Mané and Robert Firmino, and the right side with Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. His ability to score goals and create chances has been crucial to the team's success. Salah's statistics are impressive: 255 goals for the club, third on the all-time list behind Ian Rush and Roger Hunt. He has scored in 10 games in a row, a club record, and has scored 20 or more goals in a campaign for Liverpool eight seasons in a row. His most important goal was probably the penalty that set Liverpool on their way to victory in the 2019 Champions League final. His greatest goal, however, was his solo run in the 2-2 draw at home against Manchester City in October 2021. As Salah leaves Liverpool, his legacy will live on. He will be remembered as a club legend, and his contributions to the team's success will not be forgotten.

Ipswich Town Distances Itself from Nigel Farage's 'Shameful' Visit

Ipswich Town Football Club has distanced itself from Nigel Farage after the Reform Party leader vis…
Ipswich Town Football Club has insisted it remains an inclusive and diverse organisation after Nigel Farage, the leader of the Reform Party, turned a tour of Portman Road into a political campaign event.During his visit on Monday, Farage filmed himself inside the home dressing room, held up a shirt with the No 10 and his name on the back, and suggested he was in the running for the manager's job at the Suffolk club in a promotional video posted online.Farage said that Ipswich, who are third in the Championship table, "are really in contention" to go back into the Premier League. "Let's hope they do it," he said, "but if they don't, I think there's the chance here, and I've had a chat with a few people, of the manager's job coming up next season and I'm definitely on the shortlist."The video was immediately criticised by Ipswich supporters, who described it as "shameful", "embarrassing" and "PR suicide for a family club".The club issued a statement on Tuesday afternoon distancing itself from Farage. "Ipswich Town Football Club has, over several years, hosted representatives from a range of political parties. The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party," the statement read."The club will continue to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum as part of its role within the community. Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged."It is understood that Farage was not an invited guest at the club. According to reports, the tour was booked without using Reform or Farage's name, and the printed shirt was bought from the club shop and not gifted to the 61-year-old.
