Trump Threatens to Destroy Iran's Energy Grid if Peace Deal Not Reached

Donald Trump has threatened to destroy Iran's power stations and fresh water plants if Tehran does …
Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, threatening to "obliterate" its power stations and fresh water plants if a peace deal is not reached soon. This comes as the US and Israel's joint war against Iran enters its second month, with Tehran remaining defiant in the face of US peace proposals. The conflict has already had significant repercussions, including a record monthly rise in oil prices and concerns over a potential US ground operation to seize Kharg Island. Trump's threat to destroy civilian infrastructure, such as power and water facilities, has been condemned by human rights groups as a potential war crime. The White House has also suggested that Arab countries may be asked to help foot the bill for the war, adding a new dimension to the conflict. "It's an idea that I know that he has," said White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt.International pressure is mounting, with Spain closing its airspace to US planes involved in the conflict and the UK's prime minister reiterating that "this is not our war and we are not going to get dragged into it". Egypt's president, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, has called on Trump to end the war, warning that "no one will be able to stop the war in our region".The conflict threatens to plunge the global economy into recession and trigger shortages of food and pharmaceuticals. The International Monetary Fund has warned that "all roads lead to higher prices and slower growth worldwide" if the conflict continues.

IMF Warns of Higher Prices and Slower Global Growth Amid Middle East Conflict

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could…
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has issued a stark warning that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East will lead to higher prices and slower global growth, affecting countries worldwide. The Washington-based organisation emphasised that a rise in energy and food costs will harm economic growth this year and could leave lasting scars on the global economy. The IMF's analysis, published in a blogpost by its main department heads, including chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, noted that governments with high levels of borrowing will have limited access to funds to cushion the worst effects of the crisis. The organisation warned that all roads lead to higher prices and slower growth should the conflict continue to disrupt the supply of oil, gas, and fertiliser from the Gulf. While some countries, such as the US, may gain from higher fossil fuel prices as net exporters of oil and gas, the rise in bills for petrol, diesel, and food will harm living standards. Businesses are also forecast to come under pressure to raise prices, possibly forcing central banks to raise interest rates to combat inflation. The IMF highlighted that about a third of fertiliser production travels through the strait of Hormuz, which could push up prices. The UN Food and Agriculture Organisation projects that global prices could average 15% to 20% higher in the first half of 2026 if the crisis persists. Natural gas prices have more than doubled in the UK since last December to about £140 a therm, while a barrel of Brent crude that cost about $60 before the conflict hit more than $116 on Monday before falling back to $112.The IMF added that forecasts for sharp rises in the cost of gas and electricity in Europe next winter are forcing governments to consider higher subsidies and welfare payments to the worst-affected households. The organisation noted that countries such as Italy and the UK are especially exposed by their reliance on gas-fired power, while France and Spain are relatively protected by their greater nuclear and renewables capacity.

Gary Woodland Triumphs at Houston Open After Overcoming Brain Surgery and PTSD

Gary Woodland wins the Houston Open, marking a significant comeback after brain surgery and struggl…
Gary Woodland has emerged victorious at the Houston Open, a triumph that seemed improbable just 30 months ago when he underwent brain surgery. His journey to this moment was further complicated by his recent struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Woodland's win, secured with a closing three-under 67, was a dominant performance that saw him finish five shots ahead of Nicolai Hojgaard. This victory is not only his fifth career win but also his first since the 2019 US Open at Pebble Beach, making it a significant milestone in his career. The emotional weight of Woodland's journey was palpable as he described the moment of victory. The gallery's chant of his name fell silent as he prepared to roll in the winning putt, a moment he described as 'a good day' after a long and challenging period. Woodland's struggles began in 2023 when he discovered a lesion on his brain that caused unfounded fears about his mortality. Surgery in September 2023 removed much of the lesion, but he continued to face challenges with PTSD. Just two weeks ago, he opened up about his struggles in a Golf Channel interview, sharing that he often felt like he was 'living a lie' and that he was 'dying' inside. His decision to go public with his struggles has had a profoundly positive impact, allowing him to feel '1,000lbs lighter'. Despite ongoing challenges, Woodland expressed hope and gratitude for the support of his loved ones, particularly his wife, Gabby Granado, who was instrumental in his recovery. This victory not only marks a personal triumph for Woodland but also a professional one, as it secures his eligibility for the Masters in two weeks and moves him up to No 51 in the world ranking, his highest in five years. The win also underscores his standing on the PGA Tour, with Hojgaard and Min Woo Lee choosing to let him have the moment to himself on the 18th green. Woodland's resilience and determination serve as a powerful reminder to anyone struggling with their own challenges, as he poignantly noted, 'We play an individual sport out here, but I wasn’t alone today.'

Corey Feldman Feels Snubbed by Rob Reiner's Oscars Tribute

Corey Feldman expresses disappointment at being left out of the Oscars tribute to Rob Reiner, compa…
Actor Corey Feldman, known for his role in Stand By Me, has spoken out about being omitted from the Oscars tribute to Rob Reiner earlier this month. Reiner, along with his wife Michele, was remembered during the Academy Awards' in memoriam section. Feldman expressed his feelings of being snubbed, likening it to 'a family reunion I wasn’t invited to.' He mentioned that his co-stars from Stand By Me, Jerry O'Connell and Wil Wheaton, were present at the tribute. “I think Jerry and Wil did what had to be done,” Feldman said. “It was a fleeting moment, so I don’t feel like I missed much at all. Although they did a wonderful job, I would’ve liked to have heard from Wil and Jerry and a few other people up there.” Feldman also noted that plans for events to mark the 40th anniversary of Stand By Me have been scaled down following Reiner's death. “We all would’ve loved to be able to say goodbye in our own ways. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen,” he said. “The best way we can say goodbye is honouring him and his work … and hopefully going out there to celebrate him one last time on a big screen where it deserves to be seen.” The Reiners were found dead at their home on December 14. Their son, Nick Reiner, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Missouri Town Overwhelmed by 'Unforgettable' Odor from 40,000lbs of Spilled Tofu

A tractor-trailer carrying 40,000lbs of extra-firm tofu crashed and spilled its cargo near Jerome, …
A massive 40,000lbs of extra-firm tofu was spilled in an accident near Jerome, Missouri, leaving the town with an 'unforgettable' odor. The incident occurred on March 1, when a tractor-trailer crashed off a local highway and into a ravine. The cleanup efforts, humorously referred to as the 'Great Battle of the Jerome Tofu Monster', began immediately. However, the entire cargo was left to ripen and rot for three weeks due to a dispute over insurance. This allowed the tofu to spread into a local creek, exacerbating the smell.Local officials described the odor as 'like a dead animal, but worse'. Fire chief Brandon Williams noted it was 'probably one of the worst smells I've smelled in my life'. The Doolittle rural fire protection district stated that while the main threat has been contained, cleanup and remediation efforts are still ongoing downstream. In a bizarre coincidence, this incident follows another 40,000-lb food-related traffic disaster in the region last year, where a truck carrying ribeye steaks burst into flames. The 'Jerome Tofu Monster' has left a lasting impact on the community, with authorities cautiously referring to a 'tofu-affected area' due to runoff and debris.

Travelodge Boss's Failure to Meet MPs Over Sexual Assault Case Sparks Outrage

The CEO of Travelodge, Jo Boydell, has faced criticism for canceling a meeting with MPs to discuss …
A sexual assault survivor has spoken out against Travelodge's decision to cancel a meeting with MPs, calling it 'shocking'. The meeting was intended to discuss the hotel chain's security processes and procedures that allowed the assault to occur. The survivor, who was attacked by Kyran Smith in December 2022, expressed her disappointment and frustration with Travelodge's handling of the incident. More than 20 MPs had demanded the meeting to discuss the matter, including details of the chain's security processes and procedures that led to it offering the victim an 'insulting' £30 refund after the incident.Prime Minister Keir Starmer had written to Travelodge's CEO, Jo Boydell, saying he was 'very concerned' about the meeting's cancellation. He pressed the hotel chain to 'seriously engage' with MPs over the 'utterly appalling' assault. The survivor told ITV's Good Morning Britain: 'I think if you are the CEO of a company, then you have a responsibility to answer these questions and engage in that situation, and say how you're going to now improve.' She also expressed her skepticism about Boydell's claims that the hotel rooms had deadbolts, saying it was 'deflection'.Boydell has apologized to the survivor and said the company had made immediate changes to its door key policy. However, the survivor is taking legal action against the hotel chain.

Bob Dylan, the 84-year-old music legend, has taken to Patreon, a platform typically used by podcasters and visual artists, to share exclusive content with his fans. For $5 a month, subscribers can access 'Lectures from the Grave,' a series of AI-generated lectures, letters, and short stories. The choice of platform and content has raised eyebrows, as many major music stars have opted for Substack for their newsletter-style content. The use of AI to generate the content has also sparked debate among fans, with some questioning the authenticity of the posts. The content so far includes a video of gospel singer Mahalia Jackson, a lecture about Wild Bill Hickok, a folk hero of the Old West, and a fictional letter from Mark Twain to Rudolph Valentino. While the connections between these topics and Dylan's past are tenuous, they are in line with his style of often leaving interpretation open to his fans.Dylan's decision to use Patreon and AI-generated content has been met with both curiosity and confusion. Fans are eager to decode the meaning behind his posts, and the $5 a month subscription fee is seen as a way to support the artist. As one fan noted, 'If a man who sold his publishing to Universal for a reported $300m back in 2020 patently doesn’t need the $5 a month subscription fee – although, one might argue, why shouldn’t he be paid for his work? – his fans are doubtless going to view it as money exceptionally well spent.'
